Boris Johnson vs Germany

Possibly the best tackle ever.

This is Boris Johnson, bumbling, womanizing, Conservative Member of Parliament for Henley on Thames and Shadow Minister for Higher Education.

He played for the last 10 minutes in this charity football match a couple of days ago, but seemed to get the sport mixed up with rugby. Or something.

Racing Grannies

Possibly the best wind-up toy ever invented, the Racing Grannies are to geriatric speedway what Ferrari is to Formula One. As anyone who has been on the receiving end of a Zimmer-frame will know, grannies are formidable movers with legendary stamina, and these delightful wind-ups are testament to their endurance. With expressions of steely determination and complete with go-faster cardigans, these two are just a few winds away from the race of their lives. It’s time to have your own Gran National!

Pickled corpse tumbles out of rum barrel

Hungarian builders who drank their way to the bottom of a huge barrel of rum while renovating a house got a nasty surprise when a pickled corpse tumbled out of the empty barrel.

Workers in Szeged in the south of Hungary tried to move the barrel after they had drained it, only to find it was surprisingly heavy and were shocked when the body of a naked man fell out.

Allegedly, the body of the man had been shipped back from Jamaica 20 years ago by his wife in the barrel of rum in order to avoid the cost and paperwork of an official return.

Grandma drops off baby at wrong house

What started out as a possible child abandonment case in Omaha on Wednesday turned out to be a misunderstanding.

Police received a call from a woman who said another woman she didn't know had driven up to her home, handed her a baby boy and a diaper bag and left.

It turns out, the woman was the baby's grandmother and thought she was dropping the baby off at day care, but she had the wrong address.

Victims say off-duty cop fled from crash naked

Three deliverymen yesterday testified in municipal court to seeing an off-duty Edison police officer run away naked after the car he was driving struck their truck less than a mile from the township police headquarters.

In the first day of a trial for officer Ionnis Mpletsakis, three deliverymen testified that moments after their truck was struck in the rear by a car on Route 27 on July 20, 2005, the driver ran to the front of the truck in the nude, momentarily looked at the damage, then fled toward a nearby building.

Mpletsakis told police that shortly before the crash, he had been swimming at a friend's house and as he left to drive home, he took off his wet shorts and drove home naked because he didn't want to get the car seat wet.

Is Golden Lucy The World's Oldest Blogger?

Lucy left a comment here earlier today and as always if people have a homepage, I visit, curious as to who visits here.

And here it is, Golden Lucy's Spiral Journal
Going on 85 ... Savoring and Surviving the Senior Years

Golden Lucy and Larry

I hope Lucy doesn't mind me borrowing a photo from her blog, but I have to say, at 84 and a bit years young, she's looking good!

I did a Google search for 'oldest blogger' and the top result was this page from January this year, which says it is My Mom's Blog by Thoroughly Modern Millie, who at a mere 80 years young, is a fair few years behind Golden Lucy.

So if Lucy is the world's oldest blogger, I think she should get the recognition she deserves. But first we need to know.

Does anyone know of an older blogger out there?

Either way, good on you Lou!

Potty training is a near-universal experience of early childhood in civilised societies. That NHS Tayside feels obliged to issue a four-page leaflet entitled Good Defecation Dynamics, complete with a diagram, suggests there may be a gaping cultural black hole in a well-populated part of eastern Scotland.

The advice is sound; while sitting on the throne, it counsels, don’t forget to breathe. And, in a hint rarely taught to two-year-olds, it is apparently a good idea to keep your mouth open.

Row drives man up a tree for five decades

A man in India's eastern Orissa state has been living in a tree for the past 50 years following a quarrel with his wife.

Gayadhar Parida, 83, who lives in a tree in a village 240km north of the state capital Bhubaneshwar, has repeatedly turned down pleas by his wife and children to return home.

Please note, this is not the same gentleman from Orissa who has lived in a tree for fifteen years after a similar sounding tiff with his wife.
