Conference Bike Bringing People Together Around the World

The ConferenceBike is a unique tricycle that is pedalled by 7 riders sitting in a circle. One person steers while the other 6 pedal (or not), as the bike moves effortlessly along.

Conference bike

The ConferenceBike is now being enjoyed by diverse groups all over the world. It is a tour bike in London, a tool for corporate team-building in Amsterdam, a way for blind people to bike in Dublin, a human-powered school bus in America and a vehicle to convey people at theme parks in England, Germany and Israel. Every week new uses are being discovered: seminars, clubs, festivals, therapy groups are amazed at the powerful sharing effect that these bikes have.

The 7-seater sells for $9500, delivered. Plans are underway to begin production next year of 3 and 5-seat models with lower price tags.

Cameroon girls battle 'breast ironing'

A nationwide campaign is under way in Cameroon to discourage the widespread practice of "breast ironing".

This involves pounding and massaging the developing breasts of young girls with hot objects to try to make them disappear.

Statistics show that 26% of Cameroonian girls at puberty undergo it, as many mothers believe it protects their daughters from the sexual advances of boys and men who think children are ripe for sex once their breasts begin to grow.

The most widely used instrument to flatten the breasts is a wooden pestle, used for pounding tubers in the kitchen. Heated bananas and coconut shells are also used.

Man with faulty penile implant gets $400K

A former handyman has won more than $400,000 in a lawsuit over a penile implant that gave him a 10-year erection.

Charles "Chick" Lennon, 68, received the steel and plastic implant in 1996, about two years before Viagra went on the market. The Dura-II is designed to allow impotent men to position the penis upward for sex, then lower it.

But Lennon could not position his penis downward. He said he could no longer hug people, ride a bike, swim or wear bathing trunks because of the pain and embarrassment. He has become a recluse and is uncomfortable being around his grandchildren, his lawyer said.

Lennon cannot get the implant removed because of health problems, including open-heart surgery, his lawyer said. Impotence drugs could not help Lennon even if he were able to have the device taken out, because tissue had be to removed for it to be implanted.

Bank manager and lover's robbery bid foiled

New Zealand police said they had arrested a bank manager who had tried to rob his own bank with a gang of thieves that included his lover.

A gang of three armed bandits charged into a bank in Auckland, New Zealand's largest city, on Tuesday dressed in balaclavas and overalls.

They held staff at gunpoint and tried to make off with NZ$65,000 (22,000 pounds) but two of the robbers were arrested at the scene after passers-by reported the robbery to police.

The third bandit escaped but police said questioning of the robbers in custody soon revealed that their accomplice was in fact the bank manager's girlfriend.

Work exhibited on her Web site spans from performance art, to sculpture, photography, painting and video.

One performance piece detailed on the Web site involves her donning a bikini fashioned out of meat, a statement on objectification of women.

Mother's anger after son cast as monkey in school play

Ashley Down Infant School is facing an investigation into accusations of ‘blatant racism’ – after casting two black children as monkeys.

Seven-year-old Myles Rees told his parents that he and his friend, who are of African origin, were turned down for the roles of hunters in the production, which tells the story of a mythical island inhabited by exotic animals.

Instead they were told they would be playing monkeys.

The two boys are the only black children in the 60-strong Year Two at the school, in Bristol.

Move to ban smoking from office doorways

Smoking could eventually be banned in bus shelters and at entrances to workplaces and public buildings, ministers said yesterday.

Lord Warner, the Health Minister, indicated that the Government was likely to implement powers to extend the ban on smoking in public places to areas where there was a risk of harm “from second-hand smoke due to the inevitable close grouping of people”.

Officials confirmed that this could cover the groups of workers often seen huddling outside offices having a smoking break.

Remember, smoking can seriously damage your health.

The Jebel Hafeet Mountain Road

The Jebel Hafeet Mountain Road in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is the greatest driving road in the world. Stretching for 7.3 miles and climbing nearly 4,000 feet, it boasts 60 corners and a surface so smooth that it would flatter a racetrack. It could easily be described as the eighth wonder of the world, but almost nothing is known about its creation.

The road is cut into the Jebel Hafeet mountain the highest peak in the United Arab Emirates, the oil-rich Persian Gulf state. The mountain spans the border with Oman and lies about 90 minutes' drive southeast of the thriving city of Dubai. It looks down upon a dusty, desert landscape that belies a nation of astonishing wealth.

Message in a Bottle Found 10 Years Later

A Wisconsin man has received an unexpected message from a deceased friend - in a bottle floating in a lake.

Steve Lieder was chatting with friends near White Lake when he looked down and saw a bottle. They broke it open and found a note. Lieder was amazed to find it was written eleven years ago by one of his closest friends, who died last year.

Joshua Baker was ten years old when he wrote the message for a school project, stuck it in a bottle and tossed it in the lake.

The note reads: "My name is Josh Baker. I am 10. If you find this, put it on the news. The date is 4/16/95."

Baker died last year in a traffic accident in California.

Lost on public transport: dead bats and coffin

A 14ft inflatable boat, a coffin, false limbs and a lawn mower are just some of the items left on public transport, it was revealed yesterday. Breast implants, a jar of bull's sperm and three dead bats in a container, have also turned up at Transport for London's lost property office at Baker Street in London.

Other strange items handed in include a home vasectomy kit and an urn of ashes.

The Baker Street premises keeps some items on display, including six African masks, a variety of sex toys and two human skulls.

NaKita Faith Lemons was 2 1/2 months old when her father, Milton Lee Lemons, 32, allegedly shook her violently.

NaKita died the next day, and Lori Lemons knew right away that she didn't want to visit a grave. She wanted her daughter cremated so she could keep her ashes at home.

But while surfing the Web for a suitable urn, Lemons came across www.huggableurns.com, a site for a California company that sells urns shaped like teddy bears.

An animation by Bruno Bozzetto featuring a pink circle and a blue square.

Give me a name and I'll give you $25,000!

My name is Aaron Schwarz and I've decided to change my name. I figured, rather than dealing with the boredom of researching mythological deities or wasting my precious time looking through popular books of names, I would just get the entire population of the world to do the job for me. Oh yeah, I'm going to give $25,000 to whoever suggests the best name.

I'm really not sure what's what with this.

In the about me section, it says, I was born a chubby, mexican, alcoholic, female baby in July of 1973.

Perpetrator Problem: It's Hard To Run Away In Falling Trousers

It's a problem for perpetrators. Young men and teens wearing low-slung, baggy pants regularly get tripped up in their getaways, a development that has given amused police officers and law-abiding citizens a welcome edge in the fight against crime.

Low-hanging baggy pants have been a fashion statement for young men for more than a decade, inspired by the advent of beltless prison jeans, says Andy Gilchrist, a California fashion consultant who has written a book on men's clothes. Over time, the tough-guy image associated with oversized trousers helped make the look standard for hip-hop performers, alternative music bands, skateboarders and snowboarders as it migrated from mostly black city streets to affluent white suburbs.

Just about every other week, Jim Matheny, a 41-year-old police lieutenant in Stamford, Conn., says he gets into foot chases with youths. He says it's getting easier to capture them because they can't run fast or far in those loose jeans.

Tailing a monkey man in search of healing powers

Thousands of people are flocking to an impoverished Indian village in eastern West Bengal state to worship a man they believe possesses divine powers because he climbs up trees in seconds, gobbles up bananas and has a "tail."

Devotees say 27-year-old villager Chandre Oraon is an incarnation of the Hindu monkey god Hanuman - worshipped by millions as a symbol of physical strength, perseverance and devotion.

He climbs up trees, behaves like a monkey and is a strict vegetarian, but he is no god and his condition is just a congenital defect," says Bhushan Chakraborty, the local medical officer.

Doctors said the "tail" - made up of some flesh but mostly of dark hair - was simply a rare physical attribute.

Man Sues Psychic For Bad 'Bad Karma' Fix

A Montana man who gave a woman $170,000 as he tried to rid himself of "bad karma" that the psychic said was ruining his love life filed a lawsuit to get his money back.

It wasn't clear whether Timothy John Strating, whose hometown was not immediately available, claims the services from Natalie Roberts, previously from Longmont, were unsatisfactory.

In one instance Roberts asked Strating to give her $22,000 to "raise his energy level," while another time she asked for $30,000 because his daughter had been "contaminated" with his bad karma the lawsuit claims. She also persuaded Strating to purchase $1,000 gift cards and told him to keep the receipts with him, again to "boost his energy."

Mystery man throws his money away ... literally!

A town-centre scrum erupted when a mystery man hurled what is thought to be thousands of pounds in the air.

Passers-by dashed across the street to fill their pockets after he shouted: 'Who wants free money?'

People were seen scurrying to pick up the bank notes - some on their hands and knees - at the pedestrian crossing in Alexandra Road, Aberystwyth, mid Wales.

A police spokeswoman said officers were investigating a motoring offence in connection with the incident.

According to authorities, when an officer smelled marijuana in the car, he searched the man and found a bag of the illegal weed.

Musician's ashes buried in clarinet

Roger Busdicker went out on a high note. When Busdicker, often seen playing his ebony-and-silver clarinet, died last week at the age of 88, his daughters thought it befitting to have his cremated remains buried in the instrument.

Sure, their father could play the saxophone and other instruments, "but he had played that clarinet for more than 50 years," Enger said. He played Benny Goodman tapes in his car.

"They just thought this was so proper, that their dad went into the clarinet," said Noreen Busdicker of Minneapolis, who's married to Roger's brother, Gordon. "What didn't fit in the clarinet went into the lining of the case."

Hero catches neighbour

A man leaned out of his window to complain about noise from the flat above — and caught his neighbour as she plummeted from 40ft.

Portugal fan Orlando Fonseca, 29, was furious to hear crashing, screaming and shouting from Kim Koeon upstairs as his team played Iran.

What he didn’t know was that Kim, 30, had fallen through her broken third-floor window and was clinging to the sill by her fingertips.

As Orlando leaned out to shout, she fell — straight into his arms.

Couple Claims Grout Sealed Their Sex Life

A couple is suing Home Depot and the manufacturers of a grout sealing product for $111 million - including a $1 million claim that the product destroyed their sex life.

Jay Flynn of Lilburn, Ga., and his wife Laura, said that he became ill and was hospitalized for four days after using an allegedly defective batch of Tile Perfect Stand'N Seal Grout Sealer in July 2005.

According to the lawsuit, doctors told Flynn his lungs were permanently damaged by fumes from the product, which left him with only half his normal breathing capacity.

As a result, Flynn had to quit his job as a product manager and stop coaching his son's baseball team. In addition, his "once active" love life has suffered.

The couple is seeking $100 million in punitive damages, $10 million for injuries and $1 million for harm to their love life.

Romantic Adventure Floods Hotel

According to a police report, officers were called to the Comfort Inn in the 100 block of Seawall Boulevard. Officers said the hotel’s sprinkler system had broken, flooding at least eight rooms and causing an estimated $15,000 in damage.

Police said a search of the room with the broken pipe turned up drug paraphernalia and a number of sex toys.

“At first, they both denied knowing anything about the damage, but they couldn’t get around the fact that their room was filled with sex toys,” said Bret Griffin, an assistant district attorney.

Griffin said the couple eventually admitted tying a rope around the man’s neck and attaching it to the sprinkler system.

“They thought the pipe would support the man’s weight,” Griffin said. “That proved to be wrong.”

Send in the IVF clowns

Sending in the clowns can significantly increase the chances that fertility treatment will be a success, Israeli researchers have found.

The team looked at women undergoing embryo transfers, where an IVF embryo is put into the womb.

Just over over a third of women entertained by a clown conceived, compared to 19% of a group who were not.

Experts said helping patients relax was the key to increasing conception rates.

However, Lindsey forgot one important key when he left the trailer: his wallet, which contained his Social Security Card and other forms of identification.
