Hundreds drink 'sweet seawater'

Hundreds of people flocked to a beach in the Indian city of Mumbai after reports the seawater had turned sweet.

Several people who drank the muddy water from the Arabian Sea said it had been changed by a miracle and could now cure illnesses.

Many saw it as a blessing from Makhdoom Ali Mahimi, a 13th Century Sufi saint.

"This water is definitely sweet. We see it as a blessing from Baba (Holy Saint)," said a man called Rafique.

Mumbai officials said the water could have taken on a sweet taste for several reasons, including an inflow of fresh water - or pollution.

Last year, Mumbai residents flocked to a local beach after reports diamonds were washing ashore. Police said it was fragments of glass.

Indian man wants operation to remove extra penis

An Indian businessman born with two penises wants one of them removed surgically as he wants to marry and lead a normal sexual life.

The 24-year-old man from the northern state of Uttar Pradesh admitted himself to a New Delhi hospital this week with an extremely rare medical condition called penile duplication or diphallus.

Two fully functional penes is unheard of even in medical literature. In the more common form of diphallus, one organ is rudimentary," the newspaper quoted a surgeon as saying.

The surgery was expected to be challenging as both organs were well-formed and full blood supply to the retained penis had to be ensured to allow it to function normally, he added.

There are about 100 such reported cases of diphallus around the world and it is known to occur among one in 5.5 million men.

Gel-filled bras OK on planes, despite security

Don't try to bring a tiny tube of lip-moisturizing gel on board an airliner these days, or wear thin gel inserts to make your shoes more comfortable. And leave your cold and cough gel-caps at home.

But, ladies and cross-dressing gents, no one will check if you wear your gel-filled bras right onto the plane.

Despite the fact that these hugely popular undergarments are owned by millions worldwide and have the capacity to carry enough liquid or gel explosives to make a terrorist smile, the Transportation Security Administration has not included them on the new list of items forbidden from carry-on baggage.

In the travel tips listed on the agency's Web site — www.tsa.gov — mention is made of "gel-filled bras," but mostly in the context of those worn as prosthetics by breast-cancer survivors who have undergone mastectomies.

Such passengers are urged to pack their bras in their checked baggage, but also advised that those with "medical gel" prosthetics will be allowed through security checkpoints.

Woman Accused of Heroin-Soaked Panties

A Chinese woman has appeared in court accused of transporting panties and long johns soaked in heroin.

Wang Zhiqin, 42, from Wuhan, capital of China's central province of Hubei, was charged with transporting 1.44 kg (3.2lb) of heroin soaked into 15 items of underwear.

Wang pleaded innocent during her trial at a Shanghai court Thursday, saying the tainted underwear had been planted in her luggage, a pink trunk, after two men in Kunming, capital of the southwestern Yunnan province, offered her a job and a plane ticket to Shanghai.

Wang's lawyer queried the investigating police's methods, who derived the quantity of heroin by weighing the drug-soaked underwear.

Woman claws her way to world record

Juggling a hectic lifestyle back in 1979, Lee Redmond had little time for beauty treatments.

So she decided to cut corners and stop filing her nails.

Lee Redmond

Now, 27 years and 33 inches later, the Salt Lake City resident holds a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest fingernails.

Astonishingly, she claims it does not hamper her efforts to cook, clean and look after her husband.

You can see Lee Redmond in this video, about three and a half minutes in.

'Love triangles' leave dogs feeling jealous

Dogs are intensely jealous creatures that experience a range of complex human-like emotions, scientists said today.

Researchers at the University of Portsmouth believe that the new study challenges long-held scientific beliefs that only humans and chimpanzees were able to experience secondary emotions.

Psychologist Dr Paul Morris and colleague Christine Doe asked 1,000 domestic animal owners to examine and keep a note of their pet's behaviour.

Dr Morris, an animal behaviour expert, said that the results provided strong evidence that dogs feel intense pangs of jealousy and animosity when in a 'love triangle' involving their carer and another person.

He added that the study had provided consistent reports and video evidence that dogs act as 'uninvited chaperones' when their owners were sharing romantic moments.

Masked saboteurs unleash violent attack on anglers

A gang of masked hunt saboteurs wielding baseball bats smashed up rods, damaged cars and started fights in an unprovoked attack on a group of anglers.

The anti-bloodsports campaigners are believed to have targeted the fly-fishermen after failing to find many grouse-shooting parties to disrupt in the North West of England.

The gang emerged from woodland near Bank House Fly Fishery at Caton, near Lancaster. About 30 men carrying baseball bats and blocks of wood descended on the lake shouting “Sabs” before smashing the anglers’ rods, damaging nearby cars and starting fights. Two fishermen were assaulted and a woman was punched in the face.

Lucy Belson, 36, a nurse, who was fishing at the time, said that the gang had threatened to push her in the water unless she fled. She said: “I was enjoying a peaceful day’s fishing when this gang suddenly arrived. They began throwing stones and one of them said: ‘Its the easy way or the hard way. You have been sabbed.’

A police spokesman said: “This is a disturbing new trend, attacking people as they fish. Obviously we are looking at the criminal damage element. Fly rods can cost up to £4,000.”

Man slapped in face with wet fish (update)

A 23-year-old woman has paid £210 for the privilege of slapping a stranger around the face with a wet fish.

Student Lucy Berry won the chance to slap Ben Fillmore, 24, who had begun an auction on the eBay website to raise money for the Stroke Association UK.

Ms Berry, used two rainbow trout said after the slap at Hyde Park's Speakers Corner in London: "It was extremely satisfying."

Mr Fillmore hopes to raise £10,000 for the charity.

I quick question regarding the BBC website. For the past week or so, (probably since I downloaded the latest Windows updates), if I try to save any picture from the BBC, instead of being saved as a jpeg file it will always only save it as a Bitmap (bmp) file titled 'Untitled'. This occurs on both my computers and only on the BBC website. Is this just happening to me?
