Student wins fight to live in Mongolian hut

A Leicester student who lives in a hut in a field has been told he can keep his unusual home.

De Montfort University student Will Renner, 31, has lived in a yurt – a small round hut – in a corner field on his father's farm near Scraptoft for four years.

Last August, Harborough District Council told Will he needed to apply for planning permission to keep the yurt on the quarter-acre plot at Scraptoft Hill Farm, off Covert Lane.

Will and his father Nelson were told if the application was denied they would have to pull the structure down. However, planning officers have now passed the passed the application.

Will said: "The future of my home has been in the balance for a while now and I must say it's a relief to finally be told that I can stay.

"I love living here and I honestly can't think of anything I would change about my way of life – except maybe the dash to the outside shower on a freezing morning."
