The parents of Ryan and Ethan Gau say they feel "heartbroken" and "disrespected" after being kicked out of an Applebee's in Gaty, Texas, over their children's behaviour. Eli Gau and his wife Lillian Maliti took their 3-year-old and 1-year-old sons there for dinner on Sunday night.
"They're kind of active," Gau said. "They act like children. They're not adults." When his three-year-old wandered off, Gau went to get him. "As I was grabbing him and coming back, the manager was walking to me," said Gau.
Gau said the manager told him that the children were making too much noise, and then called the authorities and told the entire family to leave. When they walked outside, they were confronted by a Harris County Sheriff's Deputy, who gave them a notice warning them for criminal trespassing.

The restaurant, that markets itself as a "family-friendly" place, has apologised for the incident. An Applebee's spokesperson said the management team had mishandled the situation. The restaurant also invited the family to come back and offered them free passes for dinner, but Gau said his family will not be returning. "I feel very sad," Gau said.
I've seen so many children running amok in restaurants while their parents ignored their horrible behavior. I'm pleased to see that a restaurant finally did something about it. American parents are lazy and think the rules don't apply to them.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was that age, if we started misbehaving in a restaurant, our parents would gather us up, pay the tab to that point, and haul our dissappointed butts home, where we'd get plain peanut butter sandwiches for dinner if we were lucky. We learned really fast that if we wanted the priviledge of eating out in a restaurant, we'd better not act like a bunch of wild onagers.
ReplyDeleteMost people don't want to eat with a bunch of squalling brats around them...They're paying for a nice, quiet meal, and don't deserve to have uncontrolled kids inflicted on them, nor should the waitstaff have to endure the howling of spoiled brats.
It's only sensible to take your kids out of the situation...a situation they're clearly not yet equipped to handle...and introduce a few concepts, like courtesy to others, and how to behave in a public place.
I don't have children myself but even I know that sometimes children are bold. Maybe the parents are lax, maybe the kids are hiped up on sugar or the prospect of a day out but to call the police is overreacting.
ReplyDeleteIf anything, they should have been asked to be quieter, possibly moved to a more remote part of the restaurant etc etc
Blaming their american nationality (especially when their accent appears to be African)is rubbish. There are good parents and bad parents and having noisy kids doesn't prove a thing.
