Italian long-distance runner accused of using fake penis

An Italian long-distance runner has been summoned and put under investigation by the country's Olympic committee, CONI, for allegedly trying to use a fake penis to beat a doping test.

Devis Licciardi, an athlete for the Italian Air Force team, allegedly filled up a fake penis with urine uncontaminated by banned substances.

He tried to use it during a test after the race to proclaim Italy's 10km road-running champion at Molfetta, near Bari.

Licciardi, 27, has been called to disciplinary proceedings at Rome's Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday.
