Man accused of shooting at brother in dispute over maple tree
A dispute over a maple tree between two brothers in Minnesota culminated in gunfire and criminal charges.
A Dakota County man has now been charged after police say he shot at his brother’s truck following the dispute. Deputies were called to a home in Douglas Township on a report of shots fired. They arrived and arrested 54-year-old Wayne Harris Dierke.
According to deputies, Dierke’s brother said they had an argument and that Dierke was angry about a small maple tree in their yard that had been cut with a knife. His brother said Dierke had a revolver in his hand and threatened to kill him, pointing the gun in his direction.
Dierke’s brother was in his truck at the time and said he heard shots fired and believed Dierke was shooting at his truck tyres or the ground. Dierke has been charged with second-degree assault. If convicted, he faces up to seven years in prison and up to $14,000 in fines.

Police say man who set fire to former home also intended to blow up it with bowling ball bomb
Inside a burning Florida home on Sunday, investigators found a bowling ball filled with gunpowder connected to long rope used as a wick, like something straight out of a cartoon ready to explode.

Palm Beach County Sheriff’s deputies arrested the 21-year-old man who put it together before he could light it like he set his former home on fire, according to an arrest report. Tyler Butler faces charges of first-degree arson and attempting to use a destructive device.
He remains in the Palm Beach County jail without bail. On Sunday evening deputies and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue were called to a fire at a foreclosed house in Loxahatchee. Witnesses told deputies they overheard Butler saying he was going to set the home on fire.
Once in custody, Butler admitted to setting the house on fire and creating the device. Bomb technicians went into the home and dismantled the explosive. Butler does not appear to have any other arrests in Palm Beach County.

Couple allegedly assaulted neighbour with rake after he called police about their loud sex
A Tennessee man who dialed 911 to complain about his noisy neighbours, who were engaging in some loud sex, was allegedly assaulted and stabbed by the couple for summoning police officers, according to investigators.
Mark Galin, 57, twice called police last week to complain about the racket emanating from the apartment of Johnny Allen Richards, 33, and Erin Brooke Lawson, 32.
After Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office deputies left the residence in Rogersville for the second time, Richards and Lawson allegedly attacked Galin at his apartment door. As detailed in a police report, Galin told a deputy that Lawson “hit him with a rake and broke the handle.” She then allegedly stabbed him in the arm with the jagged handle. Richards, Galin added, struck him with a “2x2 stick.”

Deputy Kenneth Ferguson reported finding blood on the end of the rake handle, and observed “several lacerations” on Galin that were consistent with his account of the incident. The stick was also recovered. Investigators determined that Lawson and Richards were just having loud sex when Galin first called 911. The couple was reportedly involved in a domestic spat when Galin called police the second time.
Lawson and Richards were each charged with aggravated assault in connection with the attack on Galin. Lawson, who was intoxicated, is facing a second felony assault count for allegedly striking Richards with the same 2x2 stick that Richards allegedly wielded during his attack on Galin. Richards and Lawson are being held in the county jail. The gash on Lawson’s forehead, officers say, came when she took a post-arrest tumble in the county drunk tank.

Man amused to find cow in his hot tub
A man in Iceland was surprised to find a cow in his hot tub earlier this week.
"It was amazing, I've never seen anything like it, it was a great splash," says Guðjón Birgisson, from Melar.

"We thought we were hallucinating, but on closer inspection we saw that this was a real cow. This was a terribly funny and amusing spectacle," said Guðjón.
"It all went well and was very enjoyable, there was no damage to us and the cow was not hurt. I thought it fun," added Guðjón laughing.

Motorist fined for biting fingernails at the wheel
A motorist in Spain has been fined for biting his fingernails while driving.
The driver was stopped by traffic police in the central Spanish city of Salamanca.
The man, who was stopped on June 7th at 10.37am was fined €80 (£60, $90).

The police report cites the reason for the fine as being that the driver "was not maintaining the required freedom of movement" and for "driving while biting fingernails".

Man arrested for criminal damage after head-butting his reflection
A man from Derry in Northern Ireland who smashed a window “head-butted his own reflection”, Derry Magistrates Court heard on Wednesday.
The court was told Gerard McGaughey was drunk when he committed the offence in a city centre bar on May 2, causing over £500 of damage. The court was told he could not remember what happened.
“The whole sorry incident is captured on CCTV,” defence solicitor Seamus Quigley told the court. “The prosecution suggest he turned around and was almost spooked by his own reflection in the door.
“If the prosecution theory is correct, he may be fortunate that he is not charged with attempted assault.” McGaughey pleaded guilty to criminal damage and was ordered to pay £548.40 compensation to the bar and was given a two year conditional discharge.

Cheeky Minion took tour of museum after dark
CCTV has captured a helium-filled Minion balloon's ghostly tour of a museum and art gallery.
The inflatable Despicable Me character, thought to be either Dave or Bob, but probably Dave, got stuck to the ceiling of the Birmingham attraction some weeks ago.
Staff decided to wait until the balloon "came down of its own accord", which it chose to do after visitors had gone home and as security were locking up for the night.

The resulting footage shows the goggle-eyed Minion gently floating down from the ceiling and checking out some paintings. It then drifts into the gift shop and browses the aisles, before taking a moment to give the cameras a brief close-up of his face.

It has finally done so - just as the security team were locking up for the night."

Toad in the bowl rescued from office toilet
David Radley was surprised when got up off the toilet at work on Monday morning and saw a toad staring back at him.
The 42-year-old had just pulled the flush when he saw the head of the amphibian poking out from under the rim.
He called colleague Chris Park who arrived in a pair of gloves and plucked the toad from its hiding place. It was then safely returned to its normal habitat outside at the Nene Park Trust wildlife site in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.
David, a visitor services officer at the 1,700-acre park, said: "I saw something moving under the rim of the toilet. On closer inspection I realised what it was. It gave me quite a fright, I had a really lucky escape that it didn't jump at me while I was using the loo.
"It couldn't have got up into the rim so it must've gone through the sewage system, I don't know how it managed to do it. Chris and I were scratching our heads over how we were going to remove it as it was really stuck. He grabbed some rubber gloves and just grabbed it. We then freed it back into the park."
