Man assaulted friend with baseball bat after he refused to join him and his wife for a threesome

What apparently began with repeated requests to engage in a ménage à trois ended after a baseball bat came out and a sheriff's deputy was called. Robert Briley, 44, was arrested on an aggravated assault charge following the December 16 incidents that also involved Briley's 40-year-old wife and a man identified as his 37-year-old friend, a recently released Indian River County Sheriff's report states.

At about 3:55 am a deputy went to an address in Vero Beach, Florida, and spoke to Briley's 37-year-old friend. He said Briley wanted him to have sex with Briley's wife. Briley, he said, repeatedly asked him to participate in "a threesome with his wife and him all day long."

Fed up with constant requests to have sex with Briley's wife, the 37-year-old man said he told Briley he'd take Briley's wife to his room for lovemaking. That, the man said, is when Briley got irate and swung a bat at him a couple of times. Meanwhile, Briley's wife said Briley and his friend had been drinking all day. She said her husband wanted her to felate him and have sex with his friend.

She said Briley asked his friend to touch her vagina, but the friend refused. She said her husband swung a bat at his friend after the friend indicated he'd take Briley's wife to his room and have sex with her. Briley said he'd been drinking with his friend, but denied swinging the bat or hitting his friend. Briley was arrested and taken to jail.

'Hero' taxi driver keeps licence despite sexual intimacy with armed robber

A taxi driver in Perth, Australia, has had his cab licence provisionally reinstated after he was accused of taking a suspected bank robber to his home and showering with her. The driver, Tony Vaisi, was initially hailed as a hero for making a citizen's arrest after he picked the suspect up in November.

However, the Western Australia Department of Transport suspended his licence after admissions in his statement to police raised suspicions he had breached the taxi driver's code of conduct, which bans sexual advances towards a passenger. Yesterday, State Administrative Tribunal member Bertus de Villiers ruled Mr Vaisi could return to work until a final determination later this year.

The passenger is accused of a string of offences, including an armed robbery at knifepoint in Padbury, a car jacking and bank robberies in Dianella and Booragoon. Mr Vaisi claimed at the SAT hearing the woman had held him hostage after entering his cab, and had forced him to drive her around. But prosecutor Peter Busby told an earlier hearing an on-board recording from Mr Vaisi's cab showed he did not appear under duress, and his intention had been to persuade the woman to go to his home.

Once there, the hearing was told, Mr Vaisi had smoked cigarettes and drunk wine with her before showering and becoming intimate in his bedroom. Mr Vaisi argued he had taken the woman to his house in an effort to gain her trust and to protect his safety. "I am very happy with the decision ... I got my licence and my credibility back,'' Mr Vaisi said after yesterday's hearing.

Jesus found on door of church

At Care Baptist Church in Duncan, South Carolina, there are many images of Jesus but none as special as the one members see in the wood grain of a door next to the pulpit.

"One day I was sitting in the pew by the door and appeared the image of Jesus, and I was really amazed by it, astonished," said church member Steve Wiatt.

The door and the image have been at the church since it was built in the 1970s. Care Baptist is a small church, with less than 100 members. Some say this image is simply supposed to be there.

"God wanted it out for some reason, maybe he wanted people to see he'll still perform miracles," said Wiatt.

Jesus tattoo leaves ghostly imprint on man's shirt

Bolton in Lancashire now has its own version of the Turin Shroud. The Adlington,Shroud, as it has been named, bears a striking resemblance to the famous artefact — but its origins are somewhat less mysterious.

Father-of-two Terry O’Neill, aged 43, had an intricate design depicting Jesus tattooed on his back at Psycho Monkey, in Adlington, which is popular with tattoo fans across Bolton, Chorley and beyond.

Afterwards, staff at the shop gave him a spare T-shirt to wear until he got home so he that did not ruin his clothes. When he took the Tshirt off, he discovered it had created an imprint of Jesus’ face on it.

Shop manager Alan Calderbank said: “We gave him a T-shirt so he wouldn’t spoil his bedsheets and he gave it back with an imprint of Jesus, or as we call it, The Adlington Shroud.” Born-again Christian, Mr O’Neill said: “It was amazing. It’s a shroud. They are going to frame it and put it up in the shop.”

Seal spotted swimming in flooded field 50 miles inland

A seal has ended up in a lake miles from the sea after swimming through flooded fields. The animal was filmed climbing over a flood defence next to the RSPB Fen Drayton Lakes near St Ives in Cambridgeshire.

It is seen battling against the flow of water coming over the barrier before finally crossing it and swimming away. It is believed the seal may have ended up in the area after swimming more than 50 miles from the coast at Kings Lynn in Norfolk, up the River Great Ouse and crossing flooded land near the lakes.

RSPB member Robjn, who filmed the animal clambering over the barrier, said: “At first sight in the water I thought it was a dog in trouble but as it came up for air I could see it was a seal. It was swimming up a ditch that links to the Great Ouse.

"In the video it is swimming from the ditch and up into the flooded field.” He said the animal had made several attempts at scaling the bank but the film captures the successful bid and they had not seen it again after that.

Gorilla takes up tightrope walking to help combat homesickness

First he was homesick, but Kidogo, a gorilla in Krefeld zoo in Germany, has now taken up tightrope walking.

The 12-year-old silverback moved to Germany from Denmark's Givskud Zoo at the end of March. He was acquired by the German zoo after the previous male gorilla Massa proved to be infertile.

Kidogo, a western lowland gorilla nicknamed 'King Kodo' by his keepers, shares his gorilla garden with females Muna, 23 and Oya, 24. Roughly translated from Swahili, his name means "small".

After he initially suffered extreme homesickness, he has now discovered he is something of an artiste.

Mouse interrupts BBC weather forecast

A weather presenter was forced to interrupt a live broadcast when a mouse appeared in her studio.

Kate Kinsella was reading a bulletin for BBC Three Counties radio, which is broadcast to Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire, when she shrieked as she spotted the rodent.

During the forecast, she said: "We could be seeing gale force winds from time to time through the afternoon. The good news is it will start ... ahh! Sorry, there's a mouse just run past me in my studio."

Asked by host Iain Lee if she was okay, she replied: "Yes I'm fine, it's just the unique way in which this studio is run, there was a mouse." Kinsella told listeners the tiny creature had walked in front of her and then on to some of the studio's cables. "It's quite sweet actually, bless it," she added. The presenter finished by saying: "That is your forecast, along with the mouse."

Witchcraft 'thriving in the Welsh countryside'

Witchcraft is thriving in the Welsh countryside, a church minister has said, as he described stumbling upon an increasing number of effigies, users of the evil eye and exorcisms. Rev Felix Aubel claims occult practices in rural Wales have been increasing during the two decades he has been working in the area. The minister spoke out after latest figures in the 2011 census has revealed 83 witches and 93 satanists are living in Wales.

He said there was an "unusual connection" between Christianity and witchcraft in some chapel circles in Wales. Rev Aubel, who is the minister of five Congregational chapels in rural Carmarthenshire, said he has called out an exorcist after a witch placed a curse on one of his parishioners. He said: "This is not a joke and I would warn people not to get involved in the occult. I have been told that a coven of witches still meet locally. There is also a witch living in a nearby village who advertises her services in the local paper."

He revealed in his autobiography that a curse on a parishioner had to be lifted by an exorcist. He said: "In folk-magic and witchcraft, a poppet is a doll made to represent a person, for casting spells on that person. A poppet or effigy would be used with very sharp needles stuck into its 'heart' as a way of doing evil to an enemy. It was this 'evil' type of poppet that was used on a chapel member of mine in the Aberaeron area in 1994.

"It took an experienced Anglican exorcist to 'raise' this curse, which had been placed by a witch on the instruction of another former church member. The motivation behind this 'evil' was envy that had turned into jealousy." The Carmarthenshire church minister, who has preached in West Wales for over 20 years, and a former candidate for the Conservative party, said witches and curses weren't simply the stuff of fairy stories. He said he had also battled a case of the "evil eye" during his ministerial career.

Drunk people sleeping inside graves

Drunk people are pushing the lids off tombs at a Cambridge cemetery to sleep inside them.

Horrified residents living close to Mill Road cemetery have also reported seeing drug-addicts injecting themselves while sat in graves.

In a statement, Pc Alan Tregilgas said: “It is not unusual to find drunken persons sleeping in this area and in some cases tombstone lids have been pushed off so they can sleep inside them.

“One resident said she was shocked when she saw a male sitting on a grave with his trousers down injecting himself in his thigh in full view of everyone.”

Oompa-Loompas hunted by police over attack on man outside kebab shop

Detectives are looking for two men dressed as Oompa-Loompas who were allegedly responsible for an assault in Norwich.

Norfolk police said a 28-year-old man was left with cuts to his face, nose and lip, as well as two black eyes, after being confronted by the fictional factory workers as he left a kebab shop in the city centre.

The Oompa-Loompas, accompanied by a man and a woman who were not wearing fancy dress, attacked the victim in the early hours of Thursday on Prince of Wales Road. "Police are seeking a group of four people, two of whom were dressed as Oompa-Loompas, who attacked a male on a night out," a spokesman for Norfolk police said.

"Two of the males were dressed as Oompa-Loompas from [the Roald Dahl book] Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, with painted orange faces and dyed green hair and were wearing hooped tops." The spokesman added: "One of the males in the group then pushed the victim to the floor before he got up. He was then hit on the head, fell to the floor and hit again."

Man with surgical equipment fetish jailed

A man banned from all medical premises in England and Wales has been jailed for a series of attacks in a hospital. It is the third time Norman Hutchins, 61, who has a fetish for surgical equipment, has been locked up for violence linked to medical establishments.

He was given the ban for threatening a security guard at York Hospital with a knife and pestering staff at dental and medical clinics up and down the country as part of his obsessive quest for surgical masks.

Hutchins, now of no fixed address, and formerly of Clifton, York, was given a three-year sentence in 2005 for the York and surgical mask offences and a two-year sentence at Bradford Crown Court in 2007 for violence towards medical staff and obtaining medical items under false pretences. His latest offences were committed at Seacroft Hospital in Leeds.

At Leeds Crown Court, he was jailed for three years for three breaches of an antisocial behaviour order (ASBO). The ASBO made at York Crown Court banned Hutchins from going to any NHS or medical establishment anywhere in England and Wales unless in genuine need of treatment and only after informing staff of his true identity.

Pakistan lifts YouTube ban for three minutes

A ban on YouTube, which Pakistan imposed after an anti-Islam video caused riots in much of the Muslim world, was lifted on Saturday, only to be reinstated - after three minutes - when it was discovered that blasphemous material was still available on the site. After months of criticism of the ban, the government decided to allow Pakistanis to have access to YouTube again, saying steps had been taken to ensure that offensive content would not be visible. But those efforts apparently failed, and the authorities quickly backtracked.

The ban was imposed on Sept. 17 following violent protests in response to the video, which was made in the United States and ridiculed the Prophet Muhammad. The government then ordered all telecommunications companies to block Internet material deemed offensive to Muslims and urged people to report such material. But the ban on YouTube came to be seen as censorship, and a growing number of the estimated 25 million Internet users in the country complained.

"This is purely a naked power play by the government and one that we should resist," an editorial in The Express Tribune, an English-language daily newspaper in Karachi, Pakistan, said on Friday. "This is about controlling our behaviour and denying us access to the Internet." "We need to make it clear that we do not wish to regress to a dark age when a centralized authority controlled all access to information," the editorial, observing the 100th day of the ban, went on to say. "Retreating to such an era would essentially mean that we were no longer living in a democracy."

By Friday evening, Rehman Malik, the country's interior minister, indicated that the ban would be lifted over the weekend. Malik said firewalls were being installed by government technicians to block pornographic and blasphemous material. On Saturday, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority directed local Internet service providers to make YouTube accessible. But by the afternoon, Geo, a private television news network that wields immense influence, reported that anti-Islam and blasphemous material was still available on YouTube. The criticism was led by Ansar Abbasi, a right-leaning journalist who often speaks out on morality and religion. Yielding to the criticism, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf then ordered providers to again block access to the video-sharing site.
