Man alleged to be dead phones with whereabouts

A supposed slaying victim telephoned a Nevada newspaper to say he's very much alive after authorities erroneously reported a suspect had been charged with first-degree murder.

Citing information from an arrest warrant, the Elko Daily Free Press reported Aug. 25 that David Scott, 46, of Arizona was alleged to have been killed by an Elko woman.

The newspaper reported that Elko police arrested Krystal Yvette Warbington, 22, on Aug. 24 on a warrant for fugitive from justice from Navajo County, Ariz., on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated assault and leaving the scene of an accident in the June 3 incident.

In fact, the charge was "attempted murder", said Mel Bowers of the Navajo County District Attorney's Office.
