Peru's unique hairless dogs saved at ancient ruins

Native pre-Incan civilisations used the dogs for hunting and as pets but after the Spanish Conquest in the 16th century they were often killed for their skins. After warnings several years ago that the breed faced extinction, the Government responded by ordering all archaeological sites along the coast to have at least a pair, a move that is now restoring numbers.
