Belgian trucker wrecks 7 cars

A foreign lorry driver wrongly sent up a cul-de-sac by his sat nav wrecked seven cars as he tried to get out yesterday.

Shocked residents woke at 5.45am to the sound of crunching metal — found a £50,000 trail of damage caused by the manic manoeuvring.

The bungling Belgian — delivering 23 tonnes of coke to a nearby foundry — eventually scraped out of the narrow road in Wadebridge, Cornwall, with a blue VW Golf still wedged under his truck.

The lorry even demolished a small roundabout at the end of the road.

Residents fed-up with trucks being misdirected by sat navs said they had long feared an accident. The Belgian, 45 — arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving — was last night being quizzed at Newquay police station.
