Picture the scene ... a New York State trooper in hot pursuit of a stretch limo on I-684. The limo driver, 26-year-old Dane Christian of the Bronx, amazed officers last April as he stretched the limits of the luxury vehicle's performance, all because he had a suspended license and got scared.
One manoeuvre on a local road in Somers - passing a row of cars on a blind curb - earned him a reckless endangerment charge. Out on 684, a highway known for rapid speed and lots of speed traps, he earned a stack of traffic tickets as he pushed the speedometer to 155 mph and beyond, passing on the right shoulder and the left, throwing dust in the air and finally smoke from a blown transmission.
Unable to move forward, the driver backed down the Exit 3 ramp in Armonk and out onto Route 22 on the wrong side of the roadway in reverse.
The bizarre scene continued for some time as the driver screamed onto a residential street at roughly 40 mph still backwards, a likely reason why he missed the dead end sign.
Eventually, Christian hit a tree and was quickly apprehended by officers with guns drawn.
With video of the chase.
