Mule-diving show investigated for cruelty

A controversial animal stunt show is under investigation by Bandera County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators were checking to see if it is a case of animal cruelty.

Three mules are part of the stunt show at the Lightning Ranch in Pipe Creek. The mules climb a long ramp and then jump 30 feet from a platform into a big pool of water.

The owner said the show is not cruel, but harmless entertainment.



“We're getting some flack over it, and it's mostly from people who have never seen the act,” Bill Rivers of the Lightning Ranch said. “They are just making assumptions before they really know what they are talking about."

The mule-diving show is not banned in Texas, but it is illegal in four other states.
