A Worcester man found by the train tracks near the commuter stop in downtown Wednesday was not dead as several people thought, rather, police said, he was just really drunk.
Dirus L. Gaines, 52, pleaded guilty yesterday in Framingham District Court to disturbing the peace. He was fined $150.
Police went to the train station at 2:30 p.m. after a 911 call about a man on the ground near the tracks.
"The witness thought he (Gaines) was dead," said police spokesman Lt. Paul Shastany. "He wasn't moving and his eyes were rolled back into his head."
Gaines looked as if he fell while trying to walk up some stairs leading to the platform and was half on the platform and half off, the lieutenant said.
The officer tried to wake up Gaines, whose eyes were still rolled up. He suddenly woke up and tried to stand. Shastany said the officer saw a bottle of blackberry brandy in Gaines' pocket.
