Man's offensive calls to brides

A man hunted down new brides and made obscene calls to them after their wedding photographs appeared in local newspapers, a court has heard. David Whyte, 42, repeatedly made "grossly offensive" calls to women whose pictures had been printed.

Whyte, of Depot Road, Huntly, admitted making the calls when he appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court. Sheriff Colin Harris called for background reports and deferred sentence until next month.

Fiscal depute Laura Begg said Whyte's first victim had become concerned when he made sexual remarks to her over the phone. She said: "The complainer and her partner had married and their photo was in the local press. She received another phone call and he said he knew where she lived.



"The complainer put down the phone and dialled 1471. The next day her husband returned from work and she told him about the call. He phoned the number and the accused answered."

Whyte's defence solicitor said that part of the problem was his client had never been in a serious relationship, and made the calls when drunk.

Whyte admitted making calls of an obscene nature over various dates from September 2007 to January this year. He was also placed on the sex offenders register.
