Cyril the squirrel's nutty gymnastics

A squirrel's partiality to crackers has turned him into an aerial gymnast par excellence.

Cyril, as he has been nicknamed, was quick to notice that Sue Britton, 48, often fed the birds who fly into the garden of her home in Darlington, County Durham.

The problem for the rodent was how to reach them.

It was easy enough to scale the Brittons' green-framed child's swing. But this still left him a tantalizing distance away from his target meal.

Over a number of days he came up with the solution: to climb onto a hanging basket of flowers, then rock it until it bridged the crucial gap.

He was then able to grab hold of the bird feeder and take his pick from the nuts and crackers on offer.

You can see Cyril in action here.
