A severed finger is at the centre of a £15,000 legal wrangle.
Mark Munroe found the tip of the digit on the doormat of his home. Despite being horrified he carefully stored it in his freezer and alerted police who eventually advised him to dispose of it.
But now he is subject to legal action, after the finger’s owner demanded its return.
Months after making the grisly find at his home in Kielder Place, Lemington, Newcastle, he received a letter from Labour Party leaflet deliverer Brain Hunter, who claims Mark’s Jack Russell terrier had bitten off the finger.
Now, the 65-year-old, of Westerhope, Newcastle, is taking Mark to court, seeking £15,000 compensation.
Mark said: “Jack is 12 and has few teeth left – and the ones he does have are rotten. He’s a lovely dog and although he barks he hasn’t bitten anyone. It’s also impossible for Jack to bite someone’s hand because there’s a letterbox guard. I can’t work through ill health and live off invalidity benefit, so I’ve got no money. I feel sorry for Mr Hunter because he has lost his finger but I can’t believe what’s happening.”
