Councils to use green paint in car parks to deter 'boy racers'

A council plans to use green paint in car parks to deter the 'boy racers' who have been disturbing residents nearby.

The parking bays near the houses have been painted green with the word "respect" written on the ground.

The "no nuisance" zone is in a car park in Dereham, Norfolk. The 'Respect Zone' scheme, the first of its kind in Britain, involves painting car park spaces green and spelling out the word 'Respect' in big green lettering on the tarmac.

Breckland Council said they hoped the new cheap method of reducing anti social behaviour would stop youths racing cars, playing loud music and urinating in the car park close to homes.

However some drivers branded the scheme "completely daft".

Chris Alderton, 28, said: "What a totally stupid idea. They should have officers out there to catch and arrest these people, not doodling on car park floors."
