Police called to trousers incident at post office

Police were called to a bizarre confrontation at a post office where two men threatened to cut up a customer's trousers.

Mubin Laher, 37, was collecting his benefits from Batley Carr Post Office in Town Street on Friday when he was approached by men brandishing scissors.

Mr Laher said similar incidents had happened before and he had no idea why the pair wanted to attack his trousers.

He said: "Every week I go down to the post office, and every week they come at me. I don't know what it is, sometimes I thought they were joking at first. It was pretty frightening, they were coming at me with the scissors and I fell down but managed to get away and my trousers are okay."

He has vowed not to return to the post office and is instead using a different one.

A police spokesman said officers attended the Town Street post office at 5.40pm on Friday after reports of an assault. He said they spoke to all parties concerned and no crime was recorded.
