Heroic dog protects injured friend/mother

Dogs are known for their loyalty toward their owners, but a dog in New York City took it to another level on Thursday.

Police arrived to tend to an injured dog in the middle of a busy road, but another dog would not allow them near the animal.

The dog was hit by a car during rush hour and suffered a broken leg.

The injured dog's friend/puppy bravely stayed in the middle of the road and protected her friend/mother by keeping cars away.

Officers were eventually able to retrieve the injured animal and transport her to a vet.

When police got the injured dog into a cruiser, the other dog ran along next the vehicle. Officials say both dogs are okay and belong to the same owner.
