A hospital trust has come under fire after pictures of a nurse making a 'V' sign over the body of a patient on the operating table were posted on Facebook.
Bosses of the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust issued an apology and had the pictures removed from the site as an investigation is launched into how they came to be taken.
The photographs were posted in an open group for trust staff and show a nurse sticking her fingers up at the camera while a doctor operates next to her, a surgical team preparing a patient for surgery, staff cleaning blood up off the floor.
A trust spokesman confirmed that both the nurse pictured and the fellow staff member who posted the pictures on Facebook are no longer employed by the trust. Both left their roles before the pictures came to light.
