Woman dumped by roadside after being nearly decapitated in car crash

A woman passenger was dumped at the side of the road by her driver following an horrific car crash in which she was nearly decapitated.

She is fighting for her life after the car hit a stationary van causing a 12ft piece of metal to smash through the window and hit her in the face.

But instead of phoning for an ambulance, the male driver sped off before stopping and dragging her on to the side of the road, leaving her for dead.

He then fled the scene with the length of metal still embedded in the car. A police investigation will consider whether the man had any reason not to be seen with the woman.

The woman is in a critical condition at Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry suffering from severe head injuries. She has not yet been named, but police described her as in her 40s, 5ft 3in tall, with straight, mousy brown hair and from Willenhall, Coventry.

She did not have any personal belongings on her when she was found, leading police to believe that a handbag may have been inside the car.
