Faces found in jalapeno pepper

Gardener Nigel Hollingworth, from north Somerset, was stunned when he chopped open his first-ever home-grown jalapeno pepper - and was greeted by a 'smiling face'.

The father-of-two couldn't believe his eyes when he saw what appeared to be a pair of eyes - complete with eyebrows - a nose and a big grinning mouth looking up at him.

Mr Hollingworth, 50, was growing jalepeno peppers in his garden as an experiment to see if they could be cultivated in Britain's cool climate.

He said: ''I was quite surprised when the plant started to bloom and didn't really know what to expect.

''But this pepper was the first one to drop off and was quite small, I was really excited because I had never grown anything before.

''Before I ate it I wanted to have a quick peek inside to see how it had turned out and low and behold this little smiley face was inside.'' He added: ''The pepper has rotted now but it won't stop me growing more and hopefully I will see more smiling faces staring back at me.''
