Beaumont police expect to charge a woman with animal cruelty. Detective Tina Lewallen said investigators plan to file the misdemeanor charge in connection with the death of a dog police say was emaciated.
Officers found a dead dog on Monday in the backyard of a home at 1675 Roberts Street in Beaumont.
The owner of the dead dog told police that although she had moved from the home in June, she returned to feed the dog each day.
Witnesses said it had been left chained in the yard for weeks without food or clean water.
Police discovered a Golden Retriever lying near the dead dog. They say it was a stray and had befriended the dog, even bringing it food.
Beaumont Animal Control will observe the dog and then place it for adoption.
