Hotel snubs bride in wedding dress

When newlyweds Simon and Gemma Cook arrived at their hotel still in their finery, they were expecting to celebrate their big day in style.

Instead they were told 'sorry, we don't believe you, you can't stay here' because they did not have the credit card they had booked with.

'We had 20 other guests from our wedding staying at the hotel and I tried to explain that any of them would be able to guarantee our stay,' said Mr Cook, 37, a company director. 'I was told that this was not acceptable as we could do a runner,' he added.

After an hour of arguing with staff at the Atlantic Hotel in Chelmsford, Essex, before one of their guests arrived and used their own credit card to guarantee the stay.

Ricardo Santa-Rita, general manager of the hotel, said procedures had been followed and the couple would not receive a refund.

'If you arrive dressed as a policeman, if you haven't got an ID card or a driving licence, I can't take that at face value,' he said.
