Chip shop serves deep fried frogs' legs

Battered frogs' legs are adding a French flavour to the menu of a traditional Sunderland chippy.

Alongside the usual fish and chip wraps, Katie Mac's, in Portsmouth Road, Pennywell, is offering the somewhat unusual delicacy.

The shop's owner, John McMullan, known as Mac, said: "We don't get many French men in Pennywell, but we still manage to sell a few of these. I've tried them and they're a bit like chicken, but they've got a sharper taste.

Angela Ramsay, 39, of Hendon, who works in Katie Mac's chip shop, said: "We sell loads of them. I cook them, but I've never eaten them. I couldn't believe it when I saw them, like a proper little pair of legs."
