Steeple cut off church

A small town in Newfoundland is reeling after someone cut the steeple off a church after the town's council had decided on Tuesday night it couldn't be demolished.

And in an emergency meeting on Wednesday afternoon, councillors declared the deconsecrated St. Philip's Anglican Church in Portugal Cove a heritage site and is offering a reward for anyone with information about the apparent vandalism.

Photos show a clean cut through the posts that were part of the steeple. The red steeple is photographed lying on the ground, close to headstones in the cemetery.
