Stephen Hawking warns over making contact with aliens

Aliens almost certainly exist but humans should avoid making contact, Professor Stephen Hawking has warned.

The renowned astrophysicist said it was "perfectly rational" to assume intelligent life exists elsewhere.

But he warned that aliens might simply raid Earth for resources, then move on.

"If aliens visit us, the outcome would be much as when Columbus landed in America, which didn't turn out well for the Native Americans," he said.

Prof Hawking thinks that, rather than actively trying to communicate with extra-terrestrials, humans should do everything possible to avoid contact.

He explained: "We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn't want to meet."

I think there is intelligent life out there, that they know about us, but that they're very unimpressed and therefore leave us alone.

The risk is there that others will hurt us. Purposefully or just by accident.

Just as the possibilities are there that any space-faring civilisation will act non-harmful to us.

Just as it is possible that any alien race that comes here will be eradicated by our common flu...

Point is that just as with SETI- We are looking for aliens that are in certain ways just like ourselves or that would reason just like us humans have done during our known history.
But fact is that they would be aliens. And that alien beings can act just as alien and strange and beyond our imagination as that the vastness of the total universe. Why- even we humans have surprised eachother in unexpected ways from time to time.

I believe its possible but I'm not ready to stand on my roof sign a 'welcome' sign. IF they did come I would have to assume that they would be far more advanced then we are. We've only have had manned missions to our own moon let alone distant galaxies.

but what if those aliens are big-boobed women who wants to turn us into sex-slaves? Im sorry but my comment is just as absurd as is Mr.Hawkins.

Hopefully, a species that's capable of interstellar travel would also have a fairly advanced set of ethics regarding dumbass species like us.
