Vets save puppy that swallowed fish hook

A 5-month-old yellow labrador puppy is recovering after swallowing a fish hook over the weekend.

A passerby found the stray puppy Sunday and took her to First Emergency Animal Clinic in Mesa. Technicians found the dog had a fish hook lodged in her esophagus, and took her to AHS' Second Change Animal Hospital.

Veterinarians took X-ray images and were able to safely push the fish hook down to her stomach. They then fed the puppy cotton balls mixed with food to cushion the sharp object as it passed through digestion.

The dog vomited up the fish hook and is doing well.

The Good Samaritan who found the puppy has agreed to adopt her once vets give the all-clear.
