A pet owner has been reported to the Scottish SPCA after her cat reportedly attacked a dog. Angela Blanchard, from Cruden Bay, said she was shocked by a visit from welfare officers after her cat Rosie attacked the dog in a school playground. Mrs Blanchard admitted four-year-old Rosie did not like dogs but said she was bemused the incident had been reported to the authorities.
Mrs Blanchard described Rosie as "laid back" but acknowledged she had had "confrontations" with dogs before. She said: "She's not aggressive." Mrs Blanchard said Rosie was fond of spending time in a neighbouring school playground, being petted by pupils and had come to view the area as "her territory".

However, on Wednesday, she reportedly attacked a dog that had wandered into the grounds. Mrs Blanchard said: "Apparently when she attacked the dog, they had to report it. The SSPCA asked me if she had been neutered because that's the best way to calm her down but I told them she had."
She added: "What really surprised me is that someone contacted the SSPCA." The Scottish SPCA confirmed that it had received a call to its animal helpline about Rosie's behaviour and had spoken to her owner.

I would have thought that the fact that an unattended dog had got into a school playground would have been more of an issue....why didn't the SSPCA go and have a word with the owner of the dog that was in a childrens play area without the owner, rather than bother the owner of the cat?
Cats and dogs are not always enemies, but it is sterotypical that a cat and dog fight naturally. One reason is that the cat is afraid of a larger animal, but that does not explain why cats fight with small dogs. I wonder, could it be because cats and dogs are competitors? Gizz
that's a badass cat! I'm glad our UK friends have a great history of animal activism and compassion. But jeez! Cats and dogs dude! I agree w/Jennie AND Gizz
Any animal that attacks another animal -- no matter where it is -- should be reported. If a dog had been roaming free and attacked another dog, you can be sure that people would be howling for it to be put down.
No one should ignore any animal attack...what if the cat were ferel and had no vaccination? And just for the record, I've owned 2 different cats that would absolutely fight any dog any size any day. Not sure what causes this aggressiveness, mine have always been spayed/neutered, but boy-howdy when you get a cat that don't back down!
What's next?
Someone reporting a dog for chasing wild rabbits or hares out in the field?
If it's not their field... yeah, that's a problem.
