Paralyzed Pekingese gets new set of wheels

Meet "Maxtor." He's a cheerful Pekingese that came in to the Thomas O'Connor Animal Control Center as a stray.

His hind legs are paralyzed, probably from being hit by a car, but this little dog doesn't seem to know he's disabled.

The shelter had a wheel rig from a previous dog and Maxtor's doing really well with it.

"He's very lucky in that a lot of dogs that do get spinal cord trauma don't have such a great fate," says Dr. Lauren Atkins of the adoption center. "He's able to urinate and defecate, and he's in no pain. So he's a perfect candidate for wheels and, therefore, adoption." The wheel rig Max is using is made by a company based in Western Massachusetts.
