Germany builds fake wild boar to see effect on cars when in accidents

Germany faces a big boar problem where you could be driving along a road and suddenly a family of wild boar walk out in front of you.

It’s such a problem there that road-safety experts have built fake wild boar to use in simulated accidents to see the effect on cars. They are made from fibreglass and the adult versions weigh a hefty 136kg (300lb).

The ADAC – Germany’s equivalent of the RAC and AA – says 27 people have been killed and 3,000 injured in 250,000 crashes between vehicles and wild animals.

‘The collision with a horde of wild boars at 80kph [50mph] needn’t be life-threatening,’ says the ADAC.
