A family have been left heartbroken after they lost their beloved pet sparrow which they had taken in as an injured chick.
Tweety had become a big part of the Davies family, of Parliament Street, Burnley, and lived in the house, went for walks with them, slept beside the children and would dance and sing to music. But on Sunday, Michelle (37) and her husband Carl were out taking the sociable sparrow for its daily "walk" along the canal when she vanished.
The couple and their children Ashley (17), Liberty (10) and Sophie (9) were out looking for their precious pet all night, but she never came back and now the family are pinning their hopes on Tweety turning up in someone's garden.
Michelle said: "She was just part of the family. The children have all brought Tweety up, they did all the feeding and took it in turns to look after her. They are all heartbroken and it is heart-breaking for me to see them so upset. I think the girls would rather have Tweety back more than any birthday and Christmas present or even just to know he is living happily in the wild."
