'Hiccup girl' Jennifer Mee charged with murder in Florida

A Florida teenager dubbed "Hiccup girl" when she gained worldwide attention for her uncontrollable hiccups was charged with murder on the weekend. The St Petersburg Police Department said that Jennifer Mee, 19, lured her victim Shannon Griffin to an address where he was robbed and murdered on Saturday by two accomplices.

The St Petersburg teenager's arrest is a low point after she became famous in 2007 for her hiccups - up to 50 an hour for six weeks - which doctors were unable to treat. She appeared on television and was unable to attend school because of her bizarre problem.

The St Petersburg Police Department said: "Jennifer Mee lured the victim to the address of occurrence and Laron Riford and Lamont Newton robbed him at gunpoint. Griffin struggled with the suspects during the robbery. After which, Griffin was shot and killed."

Police said all three suspects admitted their involvement and were charged with murder. Ms Mee no longer has the hiccups, police department spokesman Michael Puetz said.
