Police called in to save Jesus from angry mob

Herne Bay Operatic Society caused a riot in Whitstable while recording scenes for their production of Jesus Christ Superstar.

As actor Jamie Mount – playing Jesus – was "attacked" by a crowd of protesters, worried shoppers raised the alarm and called police.

Show director Cheryl Mumford said: "We were surprised when we heard police sirens and saw blue flashing lights. We thought there had been an accident until we realised they were for us. Luckily the two policemen saw the funny side when I told them it was only Jesus being beaten up by the cast."

The show will be at the Gulbenkian Theatre at the University of Kent, Canterbury, from Tuesday to Saturday next week.

I don't get it. Why were they out in the middle of town playing their parts if this is a live show? Or is it a live show?
