RNLI crew rescues lifeboat fundraisers

A group of charity rowers who got caught in rough water have been rescued by the same service they were raising money for.

At about 9am on Thursday, 3 Peaks Row, a four-strong group doing a sponsored row, run and cycle from Fort William to Wales in aid of lifeboat charity RNLI, lost their boat's rudder and got caught in rough water off the Mull of Galloway.

The skipper called Clyde Coastguard which asked Portpatrick RNLI to rescue the rowers who are using a ten-metre ocean-going rowing boat.

Rescuers towed the rowers to Drummore village near Stranraer for repairs, with the local coastguard rescue team there providing shore support. The group hopes to raise £40,000 for four charities: RNLI, Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust, Devon Air Ambulance Trust and Help For Heroes.
