Cooking classes for left-handers launched

A Scottish cook school has caved in to demand by becoming the first in Europe to offer dedicated classes for left-handed people. Special beginners’ lessons will begin from today at the Cook School Scotland, in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, under the direction of renowned head chef Phil Lewis.

Managers have purchased a range of new equipment for the new classes, including left-handed peelers, whisks, spoons and graters. In addition Phil – who has cooked for a host of celebrities and politicians including former US President Bill Clinton – will teach the classes with his right hand tied behind his back to give him a genuine left-handed experience.

Launching the programme the chef said: “Not a week goes by without someone asking for left-handed cookery classes.Left-handers often feel left out at Cook School and they all say they want classes specially geared towards their particular needs.

“Ten per cent of the Scottish population is left-handed and these are people who are missing out on what cook schools have to offer. We will be sending out the message that we are open to left-handers – and right-handers of course as well.”
