CCTV captures policeman saving drowning teenager

A 13-year-old boy in Essex has been saved by a police officer after he began to drown in the sea off Southend.

PC Martin Knights, 46, was on patrol on August 1 when he noticed the boy, who has not been named, struggling in the water.

The boy, who was on a day out with his step-mother in Southend, was 200 metres out to sea when he got into trouble swimming.

PC Martin Knights stripped off his uniform to swim out and rescue the boy. The officer's action was captured by council CCTV cameras.

Well done to Martin Knights.
He'll probably be thrown out of the police now for not having a risk assessment done and for not getting written permission to enter the water.
