Icelandic rescue workers recover sheep buried under metres of snow

Around 300 ICE-SAR workers took part in the search and rescue of sheep in North Iceland following severe snowstorms, after which The National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police’s Civic Protection Department declared a state of emergency.

Many sheep were found alive, buried in up to three metres of snow.

The deep snow and continuing poor weather conditions in North Iceland made the rescue conditions challenging. Four-wheel drives and sledges were brought in to assist with the operation.
