Staff member Calum Battershill, 23, sprang into action when he realised the man had taken the trainers from the sale rack and left the shop. Mr Battershill, from Morden, said: "I was up in the stock room and my mate said someone had taken something so I ran downstairs to catch him.
"He left the shop but I chased after him and caught him near Asda. I just held him until police got there. I don't think he'd realised he'd taken two trainers for the same foot - he was pretty drunk."
Kwasenko, of Willow Walk, was arrested and spent a day in the cells before he appeared at Camberwell Green Magistrates' Court on Friday, October 26. He was sentenced to a day in prison and told the time he spent behind bars prior to the hearing could count as his detention.
