Shoppers turn to dark arts to determine whether food contains horsemeat

Consumers have resorted to unorthodox methods to work out which processed foods have got horsemeat in them.

A shopper in Poland has been filmed using a pendulum to work out which sausages to buy at the cooked meat counter of a budget supermarket.

YouTube link.

The traditional tool is normally used by faith healers and fortune tellers to make predictions or find ancient magical ley lines. But the video shows a middle-aged woman reading the content notes on two packets of sausages.

She then pulls out a weighted pendulum which spins over both packs before it is drawn towards one of them. She makes her choice and puts the other ones back. The sausages she'd rejected then jump out of the rack onto the floor.
