You're right, it is a Megabat, and he looks like an Aussie because he's cuddling a koala. Just a baby, he's a Black Flying Fox (or fruit bat), by the looks of the little fella. You can see literally thousands right in the heart of Sydney. They're noisy and messy, but very beautiful!
