Geocache hunter rescued from tree

A woman had to be rescued after she became stuck up a tree in Dorset whilst trying to retrieve a capsule used in an internet-based treasure hunt.

Firefighters and a technical rescue team were called to the tree in Upper Parkstone Heights, Poole, just after 12pm on Saturday. Crews said it took almost an hour to lower the 20-year-old to the ground.

She had climbed the tree to get the capsule while taking part in the high-tech game known as geocaching.

Based on Global Positioning Systems (GPS) technology, geocachers follow clues to find a treasure or cache capsule and share their experiences online. There are more than 5,000,000 registered geocachers worldwide and more than 2,000,000 caches are estimated to be hidden across the planet.
