IndyCar practice interrupted by family of ducks

A family of ducks brought IndyCar practice to a sudden halt at Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan, on Friday morning.

A mother duck and her four ducklings wandered onto the race track as cars practiced for this weekend's IZOD IndyCar Series doubleheader. Several cars scooted past the ducks, mother attempting to lead her little ones to safety.

The yellow flag came out, and track workers ran after the Belle Isle residents, who were weaving back and forth on the straightaway and making a rescue difficult. Eventually, a safety truck pulled up on the course, and the feathered locals were cornered.

With care, workers picked up the duck family and deposited them gently over the concrete walls surrounding the race track. The ducks waddled off to the river banks and resumed their normal activities.
