Police officer's flatulence led to discovery of cannabis factory

Officers from Leicestershire Police burglary team were waiting on a suspect to arrest; three members of the team were in one car at the end of a street, two in the front and one in the back.

The officer in the back enjoyed a high protein diet, and suffering with flatulence. The officers in the front seats of the car were forced to wind down the windows.

On doing so the officers smelled what they thought was cannabis. They asked their colleague in the back what he had been eating, and after fits of giggles and denials, they realised that the cannabis smell was in the air in the street outside.

All three officers’ suspicions were now raised, and they left the car to get some fresh air and find the cause of the cannabis smell. 200 metres further along the road the officers, following their noses, found a cannabis factory with a crop worth £12,000. Seven people were arrested, leading to a further seizure from another house nearby.
