Burglars targeted school in failed attempt to steal popsicles

Two suspected burglars hit Stonebridge Elementary School in Stillwater, Minnesota, on the Fourth of July, and tried to make off with popsicles. Police were called to the school at about 2am for a fireworks complaint in the area.

When police arrived, the officer was approached by two suspects - one of whom was wearing a black ski mask - that had just exited the school, according to the police report. The suspects fled, dropping two cases of popsicles in the driveway as they ran.

School officials reported that burglars have entered the school in other recent incidents. In this incident, police believe the burglars entered the school from the roof, headed to the kitchen area and swiped popsicles from the freezer. Once inside the school, the suspected burglars set off a motion alarm.

It did not appear that the burglars caused any damage inside the school, or stole anything else, the report states. The popsicles were valued at $10. School officials are in the process of forwarding surveillance footage to police. The case remains under investigation.
