Kitten flushed down toilet by children rescued by firefighters

A four-week-old kitten has been christened ‘Lucky’ after using up one its nine lives by surviving being flushed down the toilet. Pet owner Samantha Rush, from Lache in Chester, Cheshire, is grateful to firefighters who rescued the young cat after her two-year-old and four-year-old boys were messing about and flushed the moggie away.

A yelping noise could be heard coming from the U-bend. But despite dismantling the loo, Lucky was nowhere to be seen after slipping further down the pipework. Firefighters, who worked alongside council workmen, moved to the outside and opened up an inspection cover where they used a miniature camera to try and locate the little feline.

Flushing water down the toilet and using power tools to remove concrete encasing a pipe caused vibrations which led the kitten to be dislodged. Lucky was scooped up into a firefighter’s gloves and handed back over to the owner who took the kitten to the vet for a check-up. Samantha said she had spoken to the two boys who were upset after realising the consequences of their deeds. She explained: “They were quite upset about their actions.

“Seeing the fire service and the council made them realise what they had done. They were relieved the kitten was okay. I think they’ve learned their lesson. The firefighters are my heroes for rescuing my little cat, without them I am sure the kitten would have died. I am really grateful for all they did to help me.” Samantha added: “We’ve decided to name the kitten ‘Lucky’ because she was lucky. I didn’t think she would survive. We are going to take her to the vet because she may have swallowed water from the sewage pipe.”
