Man kicked off bus because of his 'offensive' singlet

A man has accused a bus driver of discrimination after he was kicked off a bus for wearing an "offensive" singlet in Darwin, Australia. NSW lifeguard Daniel Willis, 22, said that he was denied entry on the BusLink vehicle on Sunday afternoon. Mr Willis was wearing a singlet with a print of a Victoria's Secret model in lingerie on the front.

"We got on to the bus and my girlfriend paid for her ticket, then as I went to give my money he said 'you can't get on with that singlet, haven't you got anything else to wear?' " he said. "I thought he was joking because he might have seen me in it before but then he said, 'I'm serious, I'm not letting you on'. I told him it was discrimination but he said people could take offence to (my singlet). I didn't want to hold up everyone else who was on the bus so we just got off.

"The driver wouldn't even give my girlfriend a refund. He said there was a no-refund policy." Mr Willis described the bus driver's behaviour as "very rude". "It was humiliating because he put us on public display. The rest of the bus might of thought we had done something wrong," he said. Mr Willis said that the couple ended up walking into the city. He said he bought the singlet a few months ago at a surf shop in NSW. "It's not offensive - I'm a real beachy person and it's just a print on the front of a beachy singlet," he said.

"No one has ever said anything bad about it before. Victoria's Secret models are on television and (billboards) all the time. Maybe (the bus driver) is living a bit in the past. It's the 21st century and times have moved on." Mr Willis said he was "extremely appalled" that the incident took place. BusLink transport services manager Aaron Blasch said that the company operated under the Motor Omnibus regulations. He would not make any further comment on the matter.

A bus driver will allow someone to swear and be racist, but won't allow a bloke on the bus because of his T Shirt; what rubbish. I've seen worse on billboards where everyone can see it, I don't watch the people getting on the bus. These bus drivers are just plain stupid. Sad.

It does seem harsh.

All he had to do is turn it inside out then complain to the management when he got there.

xoxoxoBruce, that's what we used to do if kids showed up at school with obscene T shirts--they had to wear them inside-out.
