Firefighters rescued kitten with head stuck in tin of cat food

A kitten got into difficulties after it put its head into an open tin of cat food to eat the remainders at the bottom.

When the young cat estimated to be only a few months old try to get its head out of the tin it failed and ended up blundering down the street in the town of Krieglach in Upper Austria. A passer-by noticed the helpless cat who was struggling to get out of the tin.

She said: "It was pretty scared, and was running around including into the road where it could have been hit by a car. I didn't trust myself to be able to get the tin off without injuring the cat so I called fireman. They had to put gloves on to stop themselves getting scratched and then put a blanket over the kitten to stop it hurting itself because it was by this point pretty scared.

"They then used a pair of metal cutters to remove the tin." Firefighter Otto Fritz said: "The kitten was checked over and had no injuries so was set free after it was freed from the tin. It ran off pretty quickly when it was freed and we are assuming it went back to its owner."
