Gurning champ retains world crown for 15th year running

A Cumbrian man has retained his title as World Gurning Champion for the 15th year running.

Tommy Mattinson said he usually "sticks with the same face" for the event, in which hopefuls put their head through a horse collar and "gurn".

The 47-year-old granddad-of-two , from Aspatria, describes his expression as "a cross between an alien and a wolf man".

"That said, this year in particular I really, really tried hard," he said. "I put in a lot of effort, and now have a sore head and all the muscles in my neck ache."

His mouth looks like the south end of an animal headed north.
